San Francisco (sometimes abrevated by SF) is the 4th largest city of California, the 14th largest city of the USA and the xxth largest city of the World. The city is located on the San Francisco Peninsula in Northern Central California right on the Pacific Ocean. San Francisco is divided into I0 Districts: 1) Northwest 2) Central West 3) South West 4) Twin Peaks West 5) Central 6) Central North 7) North 8) North East 9) Central East 10) Southeast San Francisco was discovered in 1776 by Spanish Settelers who established a fort on the tip of the San Francisco Peninsula. The city expanded rapidly after the California Golf Rush of 1848 On April 6 1906 San Francisco was destroyed by an major Earthquake resulting in a large fire. The city was rapidely rebuilt. The nickname of the city is "The city by the Bay" Today San Franciscos is one of the 5 most visited cities of the World making Tourism one of the main income streams for the city. Monuments like the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, Coit Tower, Transamerica Pyramid and the Cable Cars are world famous. |
